not necessarily the music itself, but the instrument samples, yes. MAYBE. and if that is possible, then we could potentially move on to models, level maps etc.

And just to be clear, are we able to put in music yet or is that yet to be figured out?

And just to be clear, are we able to put in music yet or is that yet to be figured out? err we have yet to figure that out. as previously stated we've managed to extract the rom, but we haven't actually been able to read the files within it...

| too bad, not yet.
i searched in 1 mb block, then 100 kb ( 1 mb samples give general direction ), then 10 kb, looks like music is some kind of MIDI, maybe hardcoded/procedurally generated as i can't find them anywhere. on the other hand, sound effects and voice is pcm (wav) with motion data hardcoded into sound file.
our hope is 1) someone with high coding skills (don't look at me people) figured it out. 2) big N shows us how it works (not in a lifetime) 3) we got source code and compiler (get that out of big N is another story) 4) we remade the whole game, out of scratch.
i find option 4 most promising, then 1, 3, 2 respectively.

| It's got the Area 6 energy (Which seems to be half the battle), but the mixing of instruments is wrong, as is the balancing. | |

| IMO Drums should be lower, or not present at all. With that corrected i think it should sound better | |

| No, no drums would suck. Just, it currently doesn't sound like drums, it sounds like somebody is kicking a random object. I think it's because of the program. Yet the rhythm is not so appealing either. | |

| The sound that it's meant to be emulating is the Field Drum (or Marching Snare Drum), which is fairly synonymous with military (Hence why it used in a game like Star Fox). Unfortunately, the closest approximate in midi devices is the drum kit snare, which really doesn't sound anything the same, in fact, the snare sound from the SNES SF games is actually closer to the real sound, if you listen to the BGM Title Demonstration from SF1, the higher 'tapping' drum is what a proper Field Snare should sound like.
A proper sounding Snare is fantastic in lending a tense feeling to music, which fits the Title Demo perfectly, or for that matter Area 6.
Unfortunately, Fox unlike DZ from Game Warden, doesn't have thousands of dollars worth of sound samples, merely filtered Midi sounds, so the true sound quality is unlikely to eventuate.
BTW, I think the rhythm is fairly accurate from Area 6 - it's an odd piece of music, slow and dramatic, yet constantly building tension (how it does that when it loops about 6 times I don't quite know.

| I'm still trying to fix the kinks in it but yes you are right. the one i used was a snare sample. where your wrong though is i'm not using filtered midi's i AM using samples. but just not a huge library of them like DZ happens to have XD i think i'm limited to about 30 different instruments spanned across all the classes of them lol. I can try using a standard concert kit to do it but it won't sound like a snare drum at all... but i'll mess around with it and i might get something working. i have however finished a few other ones in the mean time
The Starfox Theme (redone since my old one sucked) Boss A Map of Lylat
Which one of these would you guys like to hear first?
