DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO THIS WITHOUT FIRST UNPLUGGING BOTH COMPUTERS FROM BOTH THE WALL AND OR POWER SUPPLY!!! FAILURE TO DO SO CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR UNIT AS WELL AS SEVERE ELECTROCUTION THAT MAY CAUSE DEATH!just open up the case like shown here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]now your hard drive should be located here where mine is (it's a pretty universal location)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]now the first thing you'll want to check on both computers is if they have SATA connectors, or IDE connectors
SATA:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]IDE:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Now if both computers have the same connector, or if the destination computer has both configurations (IDE and SATA) then you'll be able to do it either way. however if the destination computer and the original computer do NOT have corresponding cables you'll have to just transfer it all by flash drive.
Now there are two ways to do this. 1) replace the existing hard drive in your destination computer with your old one, or 2) use the extra cables provided by your old machine and hook it up so that both hard drives are installed in the computer. I would recommend using step two because then you can just copy all of your old data from drive E (assuming that's the letter that your old hard drive would be given) straight onto your C drive (once again assuming that's the drive letter/path)
to go through with option two, you will need to find most likely a phillips screw driver, then you carefully remove the screws from the hard drive. occasionally you will have "screwless" drives that will just slide out on their own. if that's the case skip this step. after unscrewing all the screws (usually two-four) carefully disconnect the power and data cables from the drive. once completed it is safe to remove the hard drive from the computer.
Now the next step can be very simple for some, or very complicated for others. Locate the IDE or SATA ports on the motherboard of the destination computer. determin if there is a free port available to run the hard drive. if the answer is yes, remove the cable from the original computer and connect it to the port in the destination computer. carefully slide the hard drive into the second drive slot (usually underneith the first hard drive) and screw it in. carefully connect the power and data cables to your hard drive. double check to make sure there are no loose connections. Close up the case, Plug it in, and turn it on. occasionally the boot manager for the computer will detect the operating systems on both hard drives. select the one you wish to boot from (supposedly this will be your new one that you want to boot from) copy the files over and voila! you now have an extra hard drive for storage space as well as having successfully transferred your files from your old computer.
now the simpler way if you don't WANT the new hard drive in the new computer. is simply to disconnect it, unscrew it, pull it out and swap it with your old one.
I know this is a really long tutorial but bottom line it's pretty simple. if you need more reference you can just look up "how to transfer hard disks from one computer to another" on youtube.
